Mortality from suicide and injury is higher in patients with fibromyalgia, but mortality from all causes of fibromyalgia is similar to that in the general population. The incidence of other rheumatic diseases is high. Fibromyalgia often occurs with other types of arthritis such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and ankylosing spondylitis.

          How to improve my life if I have fibromyalgia? Experts recommend that adults get an average of 150 minutes of exercise per week. Walk, swim, or bike for 30 minutes, 5 days a week. People interested in moving around safely can participate in exercise programs that have been shown to reduce arthritis-related pain and disability and improve mood and ability to walk. Take a self-management course that helps people with arthritis or other conditions, including fibromyalgia, feel more confident, manage their symptoms, live well, and understand how the condition is affecting their lives.
